John W. Lord, Jr.

John Whitaker Lord, Jr. (December 19, 1901 – May 16, 1972) was a United States federal judge.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lord received an LL.B. from Temple University School of Law in 1928. He was in private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1928 to 1954. He was a Professor of law, Temple University from 1938 to 1954. He was a Deputy state attorney general of Pennsylvania from 1939 to 1946. He was a Pennsylvania state senator from 1947 to 1951. He was a Councilman, City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1952 to 1954.
Lord was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Lord was nominated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on March 29, 1954, to a seat vacated by James P. McGranery. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 18, 1954, and received his commission on May 20, 1954. He served as chief judge from 1969-1971. He assumed senior status on December 19, 1971. Lord served in that capacity until his death.
